The British Army works tirelessly, safeguarding the country's interests around the globe. Even national defenders need a time of rest and relaxation though, which is where the Army Sports Lottery can help. Numbers are drawn randomly and the draw is independently witnessed. The weekly prizes range from a jackpot of 10,000 and other substantial sums down to 15 100 wins. Playing the lottery is a fun way to while away a rare quiet moment for those on active service, and can also be a pleasant distraction for anyone recuperating in hospital.
The Lottery is advertised on the Ministry of Defence website. It's important that this area looks as attractive as possible, and reflects the range of sports pursued by Army personnel. We were asked to redesign this area of the website, and you can see the results at http://armysportslottery.com This site is now separate to the main Ministry of Defence site, and has its own domain name. This makes it a lot easier to find, as it doesn't get lost in the wealth of information on the rest of the MOD site.
Content is easily updated by Army staff; the site comes complete with an intuitive and straightforward Content Management System (CMS) - so there's no need for a developer to be involved in the updates. This makes it both quicker to manage and more cost-effective for the Army.
The clean, appealing design matches the profile of today's forces and is easy to navigate. It includes pictures of Army people playing sports which they can see and share with their families.
We believe that the new design will help the Army make the most of this resource. For example, it's easy for troops abroad to check the Lottery results by date. It should boost funds available for sporting activities. And it helps underline the professionalism of the operation as a whole.
